Burnaby is located directly east of Vancouver, in the centre of the Burrard Peninsula. According to Statistics Canada, in 2022, Burnaby had a population of 249,197, an increase of 7% from the last census in 2016. The median age of the city's population is 40.4 years. The city fsupports major commercial town centres, high-density residential areas, two Sky-Train rapid transit lines, technology research, business parks and film studios. It is home to Simon Fraser University's main campus, with more than 30,000 students and 950 staff, as well as the British Columbia Institute of Technology's main campus with more than 49,000 students.
