A combination of hotel and residential accommodation, One Wall Centre briefly held the position as tallest structure in Vancouver and garnered headlines for the controversy surrounding its glazed exterior. Disagreement during construction regarding the chosen colour and opacity of the glass facade led to a compromise decision in which a more transparent panel was installed on the upper third of the building, leading to its ultimate and curious two-tone appearance.
The transfer of densityfrom several historic structures elsewhere in the downtown core sanctioned the additional building height. The tower's modest floor-plate and oval configuration do much in creating a striking profile amidst the skyline of downtown Vancouver. They also inadvertently inspire a degree of ingenuity in the sensible organization of hotel suite and condominium layouts - a latter day of instance function following form after all.
